Become A Candidate for Honorary Mayor of Nantucket

Brant Point LighthouseAnyone can register to become a candidate for the office of Honorary Mayor of Nantucket, a fundraiser for the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. All that is required of candidates is a love of Nantucket, payment of a $20.11 fee, and agreement to the Guidelines and Indemnity Agreement. Credit cards will be accepted. Candidates can register at this website or visit the Chamber offices upstairs at Zero Main Street. A headshot is recommended, and candidates may also include a paragraph on their platform, a campaign slogan, bio, and connection to the island. To be eligible, a candidate must be a living person over the age of 18, and must either "nominate" himself or herself.

The "election" will begin on April 1, 2011 with candidate registration. New candidates may register throughout the election.  Voting begins April 29, 2011 with ballots available both at  the Chamber offices upstairs at Zero Main Street and through this website. Voting ends in August of 2011. The decision of the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce on the winners of this mock election is final.

CANDIDATE GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION

The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce (hereinafter “the Chamber”) is holding a mock election to elect an Honorary Mayor of Nantucket.  The purpose of this election is to raise money. 

THE OFFICE OF MAYOR IS HONORARY, NOT REAL,  AND HOLDS NO POLITICAL OR MUNICIPAL SIGNIFICANCE OR POWER WHATSOEVER.

Requirements and Information:

1. All candidates for this mock election must give the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce basic information such as age, address, birthday and criminal history.

2. All candidates must agree that the office of Honorary Mayor is not real and that any candidate can be eliminated for any reason, including but not limited to, an arrest, non-attendance at Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce events, exhibiting bad behavior, any other reason, or simply at the pleasure of the Chamber.

3. Every candidate agrees to let the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce use his or her likeness and information for publicity and Chamber documents to be publicly disseminated.

4. Every candidate agrees that before running for Honorary Mayor, he or she must sign an indemnification agreement holding the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Nantucket harmless.

5. All candidates agree that their behavior during, and outside of, Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce events must be of the highest quality as this mock election is a fundraiser and the candidate will be representing the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, and their behavior will reflect directly on the Chamber.
